Laser
surgery has become increasingly popular in our country for treatment of
a variety of skin conditions. We use several different lasers in our office
to achieve our goals of resolving problems our patients present to us.
These include facial wrinkles, lip creases, acne scars, age spots, vascular
skin abnormalities, pigmented lesions (skin discoloration) and tattoos.
Age
Spots
Age spots are light tan to brown areas of discoloration on the skin. In
these areas, the body has collected more pigment, creating age spots,
liver spots, freckles and brown birthmarks. These are congenital or acquired
through overexposure to the sun. These can be successfully lightened or
removed with modern laser technology. A laser removes the pigmented lesions
with the energy of light. A laser is designed to produce one or more specific
wavelengths of light which are absorbed
by the pigment. Pigmented lesions are either lightened or removed when
the laser light passes through the skin and is absorbed by abnormal concentrations
of melanin. The rapid absorption of light energy causes melanin to destruct
to a point where the melanin concentration is reduced, leaving the treated
skin looking uniform in color and texture.

Hair
Removal
Hair removal laser technology provides a non-invasive, comfortable removal
of unwanted hair from large or small body areas. This laser is ideal for
treating fine and coarse hair in a fast and effective manner.

Laser
Skin Resurfacing
We were all born with smooth, baby-soft skin. As we go through life, our
skin is subject to numerous experiences that leave it less than perfect.
Although dermabrasion and chemical peels have offered some hope for patients
in the past, risk of scarring, pigmentation problems,
discomfort, long recovery periods, and lack of sufficent cosmetic results
have denied people the beautiful skin they desire.
Now, sun-damaged
and aging skin can be removed, layer-by-layer, helping protect and stimulate
the regeneration of deeper, more healthy skin. Many conditions of the
face such as fine wrinkling around the eyelids, forehead, nose and mouth
can be made smoother with this simple process. Even the effects of chicken
pox or acne scars can be successfully treated with the UltraPulse CO2
Laser. Three to four weeks is required for full recovery though a light
pink discoloration may persist for several months. Experience a more healthy
and youthful looking appearance today. Contact your physician to learn
more about Laser Skin Resurfacing and how you can enjoy smoother, more
beautiful skin safely and effectively.

Lite
Laser Peel
A newer form of laser therapy for facial irregularities is the lite peel
laser. This utilizer the CO2 laser at a less intense setting than the
standard facial procedure. Usually the treatment results in a 1-2 week
period of immediate healing without the prolonged redness found in traditional
peel procedures.

Tattoos
Removal of decorative tattos has been successfuly accomplished through
laser therapy. Generally several sessions with the laser are required
to accomplish the desired result. The laser used for tattoo removal works
in a manner similar to that described for pigmented lesion removal (above).
The use of a specific wavelength of light and rapidly pulsed delivery
system results in minimal damage to the skin while providing maximum tattoo
ink removal. Feel free to discuss this further with any of our staff.

Vascular
Lesions
Vascular lesions are areas of overgrown or enlarged blood vessels. These
vary in color from red to purple and range in size from a spot to large
areas of the body. Seen as visible veins, spider veins or port wine stains,
they are quite common and are either congenital, acquired through overexposure
to the sun, a result of oral contraceptives, hormone therapy, or the natural
aging process. These can be treated with lasers designed to create rapid
tiny pulses of light that are absorbed into the blood cells, causing the
blood to heat and coagulate. This leaves the vessel walls unsupported,
causing them to collapse. Then, after the treatment during the healing
process, these vessels dissolve within the body. Once the vessels dissolve,
the treated area returns to the natural color of your skin.
